Sharman Stone is retiring!? I must say, I'm quite disappointed to see her go, I've been quite impressed with the way she went about her role, even before I moved into the electorate.
I've thought for a while now that when she retired I'd like to see an independent take over. It's rare to find a party politician who is willing to fight their party on an issue for as long as she did for SPC. Even Barnaby Joyce simply stopped talking about the Shenhua mine after a few days and, as far as I'm aware, the concerns over water security on the Liverpool Plains are still in play.
Since high school I've been flirting with the idea of running for office - I always thought it would be as a Victorian representative in the Senate. I've asked on the Euroa Community Noticeboard Facebook page whether any locals are interested in running, working on a campaign would be a great learning experience.
